About Us

My name is Brian Isley and my wife’s name is Tracy Darling. We are the proud owners of The Freedom Ranch located in the high desert (about 6500 ft in elevation) in northeastern Arizona.

I grew up in rural Indiana on a farm and Tracy spent most of her childhood in a small town in Indiana. Our primary residence for the last 20 years has been in Southern California.

These last 4 years have been a challenge for us because of the unjust shutting down of businesses and taking away of our basic freedoms that are God given. Some would argue that the “greater good” demanded that and my response is “whose greater good”. Not mine. Freedom is precious and as Benjamin Franklin said, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”  Three years ago, we set out to find a place that was far from the city where we could live without light pollution, air pollution and have fresh air. Also to be free to do whatever we want whenever we want if others are not harmed.

We originally were looking for a property in Tennessee but quickly realized that the trip to the property would be difficult and we would not be able to visit very often. We began looking for property on Ranchland.com and one day we found our property. It is a ten-hour drive from our primary residence, so it is a little bit of a drive but well worth it. Our plans are to eventually make the ranch our primary residence.

We own a holistic medical practice and passionately believe that growing your own crops and raising your own meat is important. With the amount of environmental pollution we have today, and all the genetically modified foods, we wanted to know our food sources. So, when the opportunity to become homesteaders presented itself, we jumped on the chance. Having grown up on a large farm and growing crops and cattle, I did have an advantage over many novice homesteaders because I did already know how to construct buildings, run electrical wiring, set fences, run heavy equipment and many other things. I am not saying there is not a learning curve, because there is. For example, I completely fried my first solar system because I did not understand how solar worked and the conversions from DC to AC.

Our goal is to develop a ranch that will be in our families forever…a legacy where our children and grandchildren can come and experience all that this world gives us. Most people live in the city, so they do not know what the Milky Way looks like because of light pollution. I had forgotten how incredibly spectacular it is to walk out our front door and look up and see the sky filled with stars.

We hope you like what we are doing. It is a work in progress just like this website. You can also follow us on YouTube at FreedomRanchAZ. There you can find videos of the work we have done and learn more about how you can do what we have done. You may also reach out to us via email at info@freedomrancharizona.com.

Thanks for coming and check back often for updates!
